Wildflower Seeding and Turfing
The site has archaeological sensitivities. A desktop survey into the park was compiled as a combination of watching briefs, strip & map and archaeological digs when required prior to and during works.
Prior to seeding the ground was prepared into a suitable seedbed through scarification of the surface, leaving approximately 60-70% of the soil visible. PGSD removed all stones, rubble and rubbish that was at the surface.
The planting area was rolled prior to seeding. Seed was sown at the density recommended by the supplier. Immediately after sowing the ground was rolled again to ensure the seed was fully in contact with the soil.
Seeding was carried out when the ground was still wet and sufficiently warm for germination, around March and April.
Turf was laid at a similar time to seeding. PGSD ensured complete contact between the turf and the soil, and thoroughly watered upon completion.
Community engagement and involvement was a strong focus of this project.
